Customer Question

A 3 yr. old girl started pulling her hair out in bunches. She is very smart and you are able to talk to her as though she is much older.   She has a 16 mo. old brother and a 3 wk. old sister. Why would she start doing this and what can be done?

Dear jdbd5,

Welcome to Just Answer,

From the information given by you, it seems your daughter is suffering from Trichotillomania,

a condition where the person develops the habit of twisting hairs around his/her fingers and pulling it when he/she is psychologically disturbed.

Take care as the child may even suck or eat the hairs but don’t worry as this habit in children can be treated completely.

Consult a Psychologist or Psychiatrist for further management.
