I suppose you mean VRE, This stands for Vancomycin Resistent Enterococci.
Vancomycin is antibiotic, which is very powerfull and is used only as a last resrt to treat infections, resistent to other commonly used antibiotics.
Enterecocci are bacterias, that normally lives in the digest system, and are benign in people with strong immune system. If VRE cause infection it is very difficult to be treated, as it is resistent to most of the antibiotics (even to the heavy artyllery like vancomicyn), and is almost impossible to be controlled. VRE are dangerous for people with compromised immune system - very young, very old and very ill. Other that makes VRE dangerous is that it can transmit genes to other bacterias like staphylococcus, and thus make them resistent too. These can cause serious, difficult to be controlled infections, even in healthy persons.
