Is it possible for a person who is an alcoholic, who drank 7

Resolved Question:

Is it possible for a person who is an alcoholic, who drank 7 days a week for the last 6 years to just stop drinking, without medical intervention. Would this person be able to dose down over a two week period without serious side effects?

Greetings J Folkins,

Alcohol is one of the rare substances that can actually lead to a lethal state of withdrawl so medication (Librium for example) is usually used by physicians to help patients safely stop their consumption. Although it may be possible for a person to gradually decrease their consumption over several weeks (not so much 2 weeks, more like a month), this is a risky thing to do without first consulting your doctor.
