My 5 year old has a second UTI. Is there anything over the counter that I can give her that is safe like Azo?
The UTI requires antibiotics. Medications like azo are only for the pain and burning symptoms and do not treat the infection. Azo can be given to children at a dose of 2mg/lb of body weight. Your daughter must also be on antibiotics. A urinary tract infection cannot be treated with cranberry juice or over the counter medications. Untreated UTI can lead to pyelonephritis, a more serious kidney infection.
