There are certain Lifestyle and dietary changes which you should follow -

1. Avoid chocolate, peppermint, fatty foods, coffee, and alcoholic beverages

2 Eating meals at least 2 to 3 hours before bedtime may lessen reflux by allowing the acid in the stomach to decrease and the stomach to empty partially. I

3 If you are overweight, loose some weight.

4,Start practising Yoga and meditation. They will help you a lot.

Medications include -H2 blockers are available like ranitidine, famotidine

whats causing this
Expert:  Doctor_Shiv(M.D) replied 10 years ago.

No one knows the exact cause of these symptoms. The following are several contributing factors that weaken or relax the lower esophageal sphincter, making reflux worse-

1. Lifestyle - Use of alcohol or cigarettes, obesity, poor posture

2. Diet - Fatty and fried foods, chocolate, garlic and onions, drinks with caffeine, acid foods such as citrus fruits

3.Eating habits - Eating large meals, eating soon before bedtime
