It is possible you have an inflammation of the tibial nerve which runs in front of the medial malleolus( the ball on the inside of the ankle) This conditions is known as tarsal tunnel syndrome and like carpal tunnel in the wrist can cause a burning or numbness in the area inflamed. This can be caused by improper foot wear, flat feet, increased activity. It is important to have a medical provider examine you however, particularly if you have had any trauma as a hidden fracture can cause pain as well. Other medical conditons can cause burning in the feet such as diabetes, b12 deficiency and lumbar disc herniations however the ankle burning seems more likely a local nerve irritaiton.
