Customer Question

Hi Richard Hi Pearl
JA: Who makes your GPS?
Customer: I am trying to install the EU maps from Magellan (which I bought recently) and am getting an error "Insufficient space". Called last week the Magellan support they told me that the server is down and I should retry in a week or so. I have an 8GB micro SD and it is recognized my the smartecogps.com - it shows empty. The main memory is a bit more than 50% full.
JA: What have you tried so far with your Magellan?
Customer: Yes, no help from them.
JA: Anything else you want the GPS expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No. I am sure the smartecogps server works because I have updated the map on my other Magellan device (with built in 8 GB memory) - no problems there.

Hi there and welcome

Are you able to format the memory card and then try to install the map?

Does it then install?

Please let me know

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I am able to foramt the SD card and have done it. The card is visible on smartgpseco.com portal as a component of the unit (empty slot, 7.5GB free space).
No, it does not install.
It appears that the portal does not write on it, and the SD is not write-protected (in case that this will be your next question).I hope that next suggestion will be on how to fix the problem.
Before I signed up for a paid advice, I have tried to find a suitable solution online. Have seen many similar posts. If you don't have a solution, that is OK, just don't try to ask me questions for the level of novice user.
Thanks.

Got it and good call on the write protection lever :)

Remove the charger from the GPD and hold the power button to off for 60 seconds.

Release, then turn on the unit and try to update it

Let me know the results please

Thank you

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Did it.
Nothing changed.I don't think that the "power button" has recycled or reset the unit. It has a built in battery.
Expert:  Richard replied 2 months ago.

Which model unit do you have?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
9055-LM with Bluetooth
Expert:  Richard replied 2 months ago.

ok, I want you to reset the device please

To do this

Make sure you're on the main menu, then press these buttons in this order: + + - + - (So plus, plus, minus, plus, minus). This should bring up a hidden menu so that you can access a hard reset option, select it and your device should power itself on then back on. Then follow any onscreen prompts to setup the device again and see if that fixed it.

Do you actually mean on the display? The unit does not have hard buttons, except for power.
Expert:  Richard replied 2 months ago.

yes on the display.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I will try it in about 1 hr

Thank you

RIchard, it didn't work for me. Nothing happens.
Expert:  Richard replied 2 months ago.

Can you try a different SD card and tell me if it can write to that please

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Richard,
I actually have another Magellan 4045t with EU maps. Is it possible to copy the map from it onto an SD card and try to load it in 9055? What files in addition to the Map folder?
Thx
Expert:  Richard replied 2 months ago.

Yes you can copy it via the computer, just copy everything from one card to another.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Well, the 9055 has s BT, and 4045 does not. I have my addresses on the 9055, which I would like to keep.
Expert:  Richard replied 2 months ago.

Ok, but you need to try it with a different SD card please

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Ok. Will do it tonight.
Expert:  Richard replied 2 months ago.

thank you

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Richard, it didn't work.
Aside from ++-+- do you know how to access the hidden menu on 9055?
Thanks
Expert:  Richard replied 2 months ago.

There is no other way, which is showing an issue with the mainboard on the unit

Have you tried yet with a different SD card?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Richard,
I have tried to find a 4 GB SD card and these are not readily available. To get a higher capacity, doesn't make sense to me. The GPS is too old.
At this poitn, I am giving up on trying to fix it.
Thanks for your attempts to help me.
