Under certain circumstances, your Forerunner device may either fail to boot to the main menu screen, or may not be recognized as a USB device when connected to a computer. If this occurs, the device can be forced into mass storage mode, allowing it to be seen by the computer and Garmin applications.

To force a Forerunner into mass storage mode:

  1. Disconnect device from computer
  2. Power device off
  3. Press and hold the Start/Stop button (top right)1
  4. Plug device into computer
  5. Wait until device is recognized by computer (may take up to 30 seconds)
  6. If prompted, install USB device drivers:
    1. Choose, "No, not at this time"
    2. Click Next
    3. Choose Install USB drivers automatically (Recommended)
    4. Click Next and wait for USB driver installation to complete
    5. Click Finish
  7. Release appropriate button(s)
  8. Sync history and update device firmware if not up to date using Garmin Express
  9. Right-click on device drive
  10. Click Eject
  11. Disconnect device from computer
  12. Power on device (wait for firmware update to complete if installed)

Let me know if that works?
