1) Has the device been charged yet, and if so, how long was it allowed to charge?
2) Has the device been connected to a computer - via the charge/data cable?

The current tool that Garmin has for managing devices - including most of their Golf devices - is called Garmin Express. You can get that downloaded and installed on your computer from the following link.
NOTE: On that page you SHOULD see a video, and if you watch that video, you should see a part that mentions that "you may register your device quickly by providing your email address" - once the device is connected. That is where you can register your device. Just make sure that your email address is ACCURATE at that entry point.

Please try to get Garmin Express installed on your computer, and THEN connect the device and add it to that screen.
