Customer Question

I am using a Nuvi 1300, obtained in 2011, and notice that it is taking a long time to begin operations. Also, I notice a small white box at the bottom of the screen and, a bit later, will see a green stripe proceed across the screen. What the slowness and what is the green stripe mean?
JA: What model of Nuvi are you using? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: I provided that information in my message. Nuvi 1300, and 2011
JA: What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: I also mentioned that item. At the bottom mid-point in the screen a modestly sized white rectangle was presented containing some picture of a building.
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: How to do trouble shooting?
JA: Anything else you want the GPS expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No

Sometimes there can be too much stuff loading on the Garmin, and it can slow it down. We can factory reset it, and as long as it isn't a hardware failure, it should clear it up.

  • Start with the device switched off and unplugged from power.
  • Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen.
  • Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then press the power button.
  • Release the power button when the device powers on.
  • You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
  • Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays.
  • Tap Yes (Button on the right).

Your device will automatically reset. Follow the on screen prompts then take your device outdoors to acquire satellites.

Please tell me the results.
