My 2005 gmc duramax 6.6l...
My 2005 gmc duramax 6.6l diesel will not shut off. Truck continues to run without key and only way to shut it off is to disonnect my fuel pump fuse so the truck looses fuel and eventually shuts off. Also getting a "service 4wd message" all of a sudden ever since this problem has occured.

Good afternoon, I hope you are doing great. My name is***** am a GM master tech and would be happy to assist you with this today.

Have you been able to scan the truck and check for any trouble codes?

Customer reply replied 6 months ago
I have not considering once i start the truck it will not shut off so i havent gotten a chance to run to a nearby auto parts store but the check engine light did come on
GMC Mechanic: Gabriel Grey, Auto Service Technician replied 6 months ago

Okay gotcha. I have seen this happen a few times. Twice it was a bad ignition switch, and the third was a body control module issue. I would lean towards the switch here, but the 4wd service light is what has me skeptical and wanting to scan and see if there is any related trouble codes.

ok can you hold on here? i will try to get a scanner
GMC Mechanic: Gabriel Grey, Auto Service Technician replied 6 months ago

Yeah no problem, I will be online for a few hours, so no rush!

Ask Your Own GMC Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
i borrowed a scanner from autozone and no engine codes are being read. I think the engine light is only on because the truck still thinks the ignition is on, which is what it would normally do when i turned the ignition on the check engine light would come on until i started the truck then it would go away
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
what i have found out is that the ignition has constant power whether the key is on or off
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
it is about 10 degrees where i am located, this may be a coinsidence but this all started happening after i got my truck washed yesterday
GMC Mechanic: Gabriel Grey, Auto Service Technician replied 6 months ago

Okay that is good to know. If the ignition has constant power then we either have a faulty request signal from the switch or there is an issue with the ignition relay

Customer reply replied 6 months ago
what do you think my next move should be?
GMC Mechanic: Gabriel Grey, Auto Service Technician replied 6 months ago

I would go swap the relay and retest it, if the problem remains then I would test the switch

Ask Your Own GMC Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
ok where about is the ignition relay?
GMC Mechanic: Gabriel Grey, Auto Service Technician replied 6 months ago

It should be in the underhood fuse box, it will be labeled. If your's does not have the cover with the location on it let me know and I will pull open the diagram for it

Ask Your Own GMC Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Okay and where Can I buy these relays?
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
if the relay doesnt work how do i go about testing the switch?
GMC Mechanic: Gabriel Grey, Auto Service Technician replied 6 months ago

A local autozone or other part stores will stock the relay. If that is not it then the switch can be tested bny removing the steering cowl and disconnecting it. If the truck dies when the switch is unplugged then we know that is the problem

Hello, any luck with this?

Ended up just pulling the ignition fuse and now everything works perfectly. Makes zero sense to me. It’s like the ignition circuit is being supplied power from another source but ever since we took the ignition fuse OUT the truck is operating the way it should
GMC Mechanic: Gabriel Grey, Auto Service Technician replied 6 months ago

Oh wow, that is a new one! I have not seen that happen on one of these yet, I am glad you got things working!
