Customer Question

2000 GMC Sonoma 2.2L, If I'm driving for a short trip, I don't notice any problems. When I drive more than 30min I start to lose power, the engine rev's randomly, and when I stop driving, it idles roughly or stalls out unless I keep revs up.

Hello, my name is ***** ***** I'm here to help get your problem solved.

Expert:  Dan replied 2 months ago.

Is the check engine light on or does it come on during problem?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
it is usually on. When I last checked the code it was for the evap system. Sometimes the light has turned off when the truck is started.
Expert:  Dan replied 2 months ago.

Check codes and let me know what they are, you can have this done at your local parts store for free. Keep me updated, thanks.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
This is what I pulled from "Intermittent Codes" om my OBD II reader, there are no current codes. No info on when they occurred.#Sun Aug 06 21:00:57 PDT 2017

Holy molly that is a lot of codes, erase codes and check them again when they come back. Let me know, thanks.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Is there anything in there that points to the problem I have with longer trips?
Expert:  Dan replied 2 months ago.

Based on symptoms and codes it sounds like you have a large vacuum leak somewhere. You can spray starting fluid around intake gaskets, throttle body gasket, and vacuum lines to see if idle changes if so look in that area for vacuum leaks. The coolant temp sensor can also cause it to run rough so I'd consider replacing that too. But before replacing anything I'd reset codes and check them after a couple drives and see what comes back first. Keep me updated, thanks.

Did it start running rough when this code set?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
It started to lose a little power and have slight random revs. RPM and Oil pressure dropped when I had to stop next.
