1997 GMC Sonoma No power to 4wd switch, ac comoressor, also not charging, voltage gauges not reading and chime stays on when you turn the headlights on even with truck running.
JA: Is the power loss consistent, or does it fluctuate?
Customer: Consistent
JA: Are you fixing your Sonoma yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: So far replaced alt. Checked fuses and battery leads.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Just purchased the truck this is after 400 miles of driving

from the way you explain the problem.

this sounds as if you may have a common bad ignition switch.

not the lock cylinder but the electrical switch itself

Reolaced the ignition switch I was leaning that direction also no change.

If you take a test light to the fuse block, with the engine running, and touch the tops of each fuse to check for the presence of power, do you have any fuses that do NOT have power on them?

The 4x4, ac compressor and I think a few others have no power at fuse block, plus won't stay running long due to the no charge from the alternator. Battery dies fast. I charge it overnight will start and run for about 15 minutes. Yes battery is also good.

4 cylinder or 6 cylinder Sonoma?

Playing from memory here, there is a cluster of fusible links at the junction block under the hood on the driver's side fender. From looking at the schematic, it would seem that you probably have an open fusible link there. Locate these, and give each one a good tug. If one of them pulls apart, then it was burned inside the insulation, and needs to be replaced.
