I replaced the rear wiper motor but still not working...but

Customer Question

I replaced the rear wiper motor but still not working...but making a low clicking / pulsing noise

I am sorry your having this problem

do you have a good multi meter on hand ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it is like it is getting power but not enough to make it cycle / work...I cannot fined if their is a relay that I should be looking at...I do not have a meter.
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

when these make this type of noise it usually is one of 3 things

not a full 12 volts to the motor

not a good ground

defective motor assembly

if you make a temporary good ground and connect it into the black wire terminal with the motor still connected all up will it work ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I can get a wire and try a ground....if I do that were in the plug should I connect it?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
let me try the black...BRB
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

just slide it into the back of the motor connector into the black wire terminal with it plugged in it should reach the terminal in the connector

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
that did not change anything
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
is their anything between the switch and the motor...other then wires?
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

if your sure it was making a good connection in the back of that black wire terminal then take it out if there and put it in the back of the pink/black terminal will that do anything ?

there is not much but power and grounds to that motor

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I can hear the motor making a chugging sound on either 1 or 2 but when I turn it off it stops
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
could it be the switch...since I replaced the motor?
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

yes it can be the switch or a low power issue through the orange wire or one of the 2 wires from the switch to the motor being bad

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it was working fine on Thursday then just stopped at that high part of wiper stoke
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

we would need to test for the powers and grounds at the motor to see if its a wiring issue or switch issue or a defective motor

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
where can I find the power source or ground to see if either is the issue
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I have a tester but the no batteries for it. This is a new motor and it is acting the same as the old one so I would assume wires or switch
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

there is not much back there for power to use to try a new power to the solid orange wire

does the rear washer work good ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the washer works....I have a car charger I can use for power...if that would work
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
could the tail gate / window sensors be causing this?
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

not a charger will not work unless its a booster that might work

since the washer works fun with everything connected if you made a jumper and jumped the orange wire terminal to the white wire terminal with a wire jumper will it work or do anything different when you jump it and use the washers ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
let me try that...BRB
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

ok

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I do not have white.....I do see A B C D E on the plug
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

should be E

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I have Orange, Black, Green, Gray, pink
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

hang on

Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

we really need a multi meter to see whats going on here at the motor

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
trying to get mine to work now
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

ok

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
got it! now what am I looking for?
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

key ON unplug the motor and red meter lead to the orange wire terminal and black meter lead to the black wire terminal in the connector meter set to DC what does it read for volts ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
wiper switch on or off?
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

either is fine

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
10.42
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

if you plug it back in and turn on the rear wiper when its acting up what will that read for volts back probing those 2 terminals ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
let me check
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

ok

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
7.5 to 8.5...it cycles up and down
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

that is a lot lower than 12 volts

can you somehow run good 12 volts to that orange wire and see if it will work ? either a jump box or jumper cables or something like that ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
let me test
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

ok

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I could not get it to work.....BUT when I went to open the back glass to turn it all off it cycled once then not again!?!?
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

if you jump that ground to the pink / black wire with it all plugged in it still will not work ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
when I did that the dome lights came on and it acted as if I opened the back glass....still no wiper
Expert:  Gary replied 1 year ago.

lets see if any other experts have any ideas

hang on another expert will reply back to you

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok...what should the orange read for power? 12?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I got it to work a bit
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I took my bat charger on 6 amp put Red with jumper into Orange and Back with jumper to Back on charge.......
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it would only run at speed of 1 even if set on 2
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I fixed it myself....it is a defect in the wiring as noted by others online that replaced the motors, as I did, and that did not fix the issue...this should be a GMC recall as this could start a fire!!
