The fuel keeps draining back to tank on my 98 and check engine comes on with a slight ruff idle

Mechanic's Assistant: Do you have the trouble code? Do you have a code reader or scan tool?

No I don’t it came on intermittently

Mechanic's Assistant: I'll pass this info along to the GM Mechanic so that he can get you a quick fix. Are you fixing your 98 yourself? What have you tried so far?

I actually just got it back from the shop they did cap rotor plugs wires tune up

The fuel is supposed to drain back to the tank in the return line. I'm not sure that's a symptom. What's going on with this, is it a car or truck?

Hot starts fine cold after it sits over night u have to crank and then it stumbles a few times then catches

That sounds like low fuel pressure, have you put a fuel pressure gauge on this yet to test it?

No the pump was changed but I can see what u mean on acceleration more demand is that how it works or should it be down on power also

It takes a lot of fuel to cold start this engine, when the fuel pump gets weak, we typically start seeing concerns like yours, it's hard to start when cold, but runs fine the rest of the day. Even though the pump was changed, I would still put a gauge to it, you can't assume a new part is automatically a good part.
