1992 chev. 3/4 ton p.u. 2 wd. 6.5 diese 4l80e trans. I`m about to change my valve body. The trans. is in the vehicle. There are 8 (?) check balls that will fall out when I remove the body. can you tell me where these balls go before I install the new valve body?
JA: How many miles are on the car? Have you noticed any leaks lately?
Customer: 241,000 miles. minor leak at rear seal.
JA: What is the model of your '92 GM?
Customer: Silverado
JA: Are you fixing your Silverado yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes. Built, installed new engine. new torque converter
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Trans works as should but suddenly no overdrive when warmed

no overdrive in not the valve body...the balls will only come out if you split the valve body..if you drop it as a unit they will stay where they belong

I`m sorry to say that your answer was incorrect. I removed my valve body and as I feared there were 8 check balls that fell out of the trans. case. I was able to find a pic. on-line that showed their location. The torque converter control valve is indeed in the valve body. New valve body is installed and all is well.
