1995 Chevrolet Tahoe: what sounded..caliper..inspection..rotors…

Hello, I own a 1995 Chevrolet...
Hello,

I own a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe 4Dr 4W with 73900 miles. I recently have been hearing what sounded like a brake pad or possibly a dust shield or caliper rubbing/scraping against the rim, but I had the car in for inspection and the local dealership indicated it was my brakes and proceeded to replace them along with the rotors. I still hear the noise and have been researching this myself as the dealership has indicated they can't here it. I can immediately here it with no problem and don't understand why they can't.

Could this be a bearing associated with the front differential? and where do you recommend I have this repaired? GM dealership or Truck service Shop?

Hello & Welcome to JA,

Yes,this could be a problem with a bearing in the front differential.I have seen a good many front hub bearings & front differential side carrier bearings go out.

I suggest ,since the brakes where done recently at the dealer ,you go back there.if you went in looking for this noise & they sold you brakes,go back in & speak with the service manger ,face to face.Explain your situation completely & do not leave out exactly how much you have already spent & the fact that the problem you came in with was not repaired.

They should have a qualified seasoned trained GM technician ride with you so you can duplicate the noise & they can hear exactly what you want repaired. If there is any problem, you ask the service manager for the name & phone # XXXXX the GM zone representative. After he finishes stumbling around, see if he has a change of attitude.

The "GM zone rep" calls all the shots for all dealers in their area. They have control, like you would not believe.

John,

I had the vehicle back to them and they are still trying to claim they cannot diagnose the problem and have told me to drive the vehicle until the noise gets worse. Howevr they did service the front diff with synthetic oil. They saw no metal shavings in the old oil. I wrote back to GM and am not letting this go. I don't feel comfortabledriving it anymore and waiting for something to let go.

I contacted GM and they would not give me the name of the Zone Mngr either.

talk with the service manager of your area . He or she knows how to contact the zone area manager.
