The term "running lean" means the engine is not getting enough fuel, or the engine is getting to much air. I would start with replacing the fuel filter. You can check the filter to see if it is restricted by blowing through the filter. Should be easliy blown through.

The other possibility if that there is an air leak or "unregistered" air entering the engine, either from the intake or exhaust. Make sure the air intake from the filter to the engine is good and secure.

Could it also mean I need a new fuel pump?

It can if you have low fuel pressure. Start with replacing/checking that fuel filter.

What is the proper way to bleed fuel system 2000 gmc jimmy 4.3L?

Expert:  az_hunter replied 8 years ago.
Bleed the fuel system?? You don't need to bleed a fuel system. If you mean releave the fuel pressure so you can remove the fuel filter, remove the fuel pump relay, located in the underhood fuse box, and start the vehicle until it dies.
