A monetary gift would be appropriate, unless you wish to send an item that you think they'll need or is just decorative. Monetary gifts are always most appreciated, as they can spend it on things they need that they did not get from anyone else. If they have a registry, and you wish to send a gift (not monetary), it would be a good idea to look at the registry and see what they have already gotten or still need. It doesn't necessarily need to be something extremely expensive.
Just because it's her second wedding and his first, it sound like you are quite close with the groom and if you decide to give a monetary gift, it would definitely be appropriate. The amount needs to be up to you, depending on your closeness with the groom's family, the 'scale' of the wedding--a large, gala affair, or a small, more intimate wedding--, so I couldn't tell you exactly how much. It depends on your budget. If you could comfortably give $100, that would be appreciated by the couple, I'm sure, but, if not, anything between $50 and $100 would be appropriate. If you'd rather not give a monetary gift, or less than $50, you can shop for a needed kitchen item, etc.
