What are dog years?

What are dog years?
A "dog year" is the idea that dogs live less time than humans, and therefore age faster. The general rule human year is equal to 7 dog years. In conversation, that is the conversion that you will encounter most frequently.

However, some experts believe that this scale is not accurate, because dogs reach full maturity during the first couple of years of life, and few humans (if any) attain full maturity by age 14. The scale used by those experts is 10.5 dog years to one human year for the first couple of years of life, followed by 4 dog years to one human year.
