Once you shock the pool have a test kit available. You should test the water before getting in. Once the chlorine level drops to 3 ppm, at that point it is safe to swim in the water. Higher than 3ppm, the Chlorine level will be too high for swimming. With some pools you may have to wait 8 hours or 36 hours for the chlorine levels to be safe
