The best is to grind it to a fine powder (yes even those big nugget), mix borax (about the same volume as the ore) to it to act as a melting catalyst to reduce the melting point. You can add wood ash to the mix to catch and react with the impurities (the best is to remove as much iron with a magnet before the melting). After 5-10 minutes after the melting is well reached (you can test this by poking the mix with a carbon rod) you can cool the lingo. You then have to hammer the half part that floated on the surface and keep the bottom of pure gold.

If you live in an area with many gold producers, you can bring your ore to a melter. You will learn how they make it at the same time as most always allow customer to follow the process to be sure they are not robbed.
