Verified-- This can certainly be a very sensitive situation, but these days with plenty of so-called "extended families" it is and can be done.
When you mention a "wedding announcement" however, this doesn't typically mention grandparents. An announcement of an upcoming wedding would usually mention the couple and their parents in extended form.
Are you perhaps referring to an article of nuptials published after the wedding ?

On Saturday, the 21st day August in the year of our Lord 2010, Kristen Renee’ Holland and David Anthony Herrera were joined in holy matrimony.

In a beautiful ceremony performed in the sight of God, family and friends by Chaplain Billy D. Dunn, grandfather of the bride, at the First Baptist Church of Lufkin Cape, Kristen Renee’ was attended by the spirit of her mother, the late Marion Dunn-McClure, her father Jerry Holland, step-father James McClure, her step-mother Sabria Holland and honored maternal grandparents Billy and Beverly Dunn. Attending in heart, the late Jake and Alice Holland, paternal grandparents.

David Anthony was attended by his beloved mother Adelina Garcia along with his respected grandparentsToby and Dorothy Herrera.

The joining of these two souls in marriage took place beginning at 2:00 pm on August 21st with dear family and friends giving love and witness.
The bride’s party included Rebeka Bowen, maid of honor with bridesmaid Alissa Ross, step-sister of the bride. Adrianna Herrera, daughter of the groom as a junior bridesmaid and Jacqueline Herrera, flower girl.
