You say you'd like to be a "distributor" but I take it you might actually mean a vendor, or business-person if I am correct. Instrument companies, as with most companies, handle distribution of their product internally. If you wish to sell musical instruments you will need to contact the companies you are interested in directly. Each company will have different requirements for a vendor of it's products. While you won't be looking necessarily at a "franchise" you will most commonly be asked by the company to buy a certain amount of their merchandise to keep on hand. By doing this they will offer you wholesale pricing
and will know you are committed to represent their brand in your area. In my experience, musical instrument companies often require a minimum purchase of ten to twenty thousand dollars, but each situation varies depending on the agreement made between vendor and company.
I suggest you contact the following companies who can give you more information on how their partnerships work:
Conn Instruments (brass and saxophones) www.cgconn.com
Selmer Instruments (woodwinds) www.selmer.com
Pearl Drums (marching and concert percussion; drumsets) www.pearldrum.com
Yamaha (pianos, keyboards, drums, woodwinds, brass, strings) www.yamaha.com
There are, of course, many other instrument manufacturers, but these names represent some of the biggest companies with the most popular products in the market today. I do hope this info helps. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance!
