How do I find some graduation photos my deceased daughter took

Resolved Question:

How do I find some graduation photos my deceased daughter took in 1989 at a Color Tec
studio in our local mall. They are no longer there..been gone for some time.I understand there is a time limit before photos can be destroyed. I thought she purchased them but in trying to put together a scrapbook for her children I cannot find them among her personal belongs. Did another photo co. purchase Color Tec?

Unfortunately, photographic negatives are the property of the photographer, and as such they can dispose of them whenever they want.

While many photographers do keep their negatives for a period of time, I would be very surprised if a mall photography studio kept them past a few months or years at most. The cost of storing these delicate negatives (long before the digital photography era) is considerable (in space, since they pay for mall space by the square foot). These were taken over 20 years ago.

I'm afraid that these photographic negatives are lost forever.
