This particular route avoids cities such as Indianapolis and Chicago, but does take you through Atlanta at the beginning of your trip. If you want to avoid Atlanta, you could take a route through Indy and Chicago, or take smaller roads around the city. However, I think this is probably the best route, as long as you don't pass through Atlanta at rush hour. It's all interstate highway, with speed limits from 65 to 70 depending on which state you are in.

The total route is about 1120 miles. Google says that it will take just over 17 hours to get there.

Mapquest takes you a very similar route.
