Thank you for asking your question on Just Answer. As experts on Just Answer we depend on the customer to provide us with the information needed to provide answers to the customer's question. Without the model number of your TV all I can do is provide some general information. The problem you are experiencing is the protective circuit in the TV shutting itself down to keep from causing further damage to the set. This is normally caused by power supply failure but can be caused by other problems. To repair the set will require testing with test equipment to diagnose the problem. Often one part will cause another to fail. If you replace the failed part it will fail very soon if the part that caused it to fail was not replaced. Replacing parts that are not know to be defective can get very expensive and will not end up with a working TV. These TV sets are normally considered a toss and replace item since the repair cost is so expensive. It is very easy to pay more than the set is worth to have the repair done. Very soon the government is going to require that all TV sets be capable of receiving HD transmissions since all other TV signals will be stopped by February of 2009. This will require all older TV sets to have a converter box to allow it to operate and get TV stations. The date this will take effect has changed several times. As it stands now the date that will become effective is February 17, 2009. Click here for more information and the link below.
If you can find a 32 inch TV on sale it would be the best option. Walmart has a 32 inch RCA TV for less than $280 at this time. I am sorry I do not have an easy inexpensive fix for the problem.
