how much gold in ounces would be plated on a sheet of metal ...

Resolved Question:

how much gold in ounces would be plated on a sheet of metal 16"x24" with .000040 thick plating both sides

volume of gold plating on each side of the sheet = 16" * 24" * .000040" = .01536 cubic inches.

On both sides, volume of gold plating = .01536 * 2 = .03072 cubic inches.

Now density of gold = 19.3 grams per cubic centimeter,

which is equal to 19.3 * 62.43 lb/ft3 per gm/cm3 = 1,204.9 lb/ft3 = 1.204.9/ 12^3 = 0.697 lb/in3 = 0.697 *16 = 11.15 ounces per cubic inches.

therefore the plating weight is .03072 cubic inches * 11.151 ounces per cubic inch = 0.343 ounces.

Answer: 0.343 ounces

Hope this helps.
