Ok, then it seems like the lens is either really dirty, or burnt out..
Most likely, with an older ps one like this the lens is probably burnt out...
You could try cleaning it if you have a lens cleaning disk.. If you dont have a lens cleaning disc, its actually cheaper to buy a new lens, then to pay the 15 bucks for a lens cleaning disck.
You can buy a new laser assembly here.http://store.richspsxparts.com/newkspllaas.html
If your familiar with electronics, they are actually pretty simple to replace.. You just open the ps one, remove the top spindle for the cd compartment.. and then remove the old laser assembly, and install the new one.
Just connect the wires for the new one in the same place that the old wires were connected.
Although, if your not sentimentally attached to that specific ps one console, you can get a working old style grey box ps one for just five dollars more then the cost of t he laser assembly.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-Playstation-ONE-PS-One-Gray-Console-No-Control-SCPH-9001-/121077828071?pt=Video_Games&hash=item1c30cd09e7
The choice whether to repair it, or relace it is up to you.. I just wanted to give you all the options for repair up front with their costs, so you could judge for yourself.
