Hi! Welcome to JustAnswer. Thank you for contacting us for assistance with your vehicle. I'm Ron. I will be happy to assist you with your question.

Good morning Jeff, Welcome back! Nice to see you again!). I'm sorry to hear you are having this problem. I know this can be frustrating. Please give me one moment to type out some information for you. Sit tight one minute. I'll be right back !

Thank you for holding Jeff,

As you know, there is no valve lash adjustment on your 2004 Ford Ranger with the 3.0 engine so if the rockers are torqued properly at 28 ft-lbs then you can rule the rockers out. If the lifters are rattling on startup then that is usually caused by collapsed and worn lifter providing the engine has good oil pressure. This engine calls for 40 to 60 PSI of oil pressure at 2500 RPM. If the oil pressure checks within specs then I would suspect the lifters are just not pumping up as they should. You may want to try doing an engine oil flush and see if that will help. One other thing, make sure all the pushrods are straight and not bent.,
