2015 Ford Mustang v6...

2015 Ford Mustang v6 3.7L. I have DTC P1450 that comes back on (after a few days/drive cycles) after having replaced the Canister Purge Valve by the dealer. Now the dealer says that the fuel pressure sensor (presumably the fuel tank pressure sensor) needs to be replaced.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you certain it's the fuel pressure sensor that's in need of attention? What about the fuel rail? Have you checked it yet?

Yes. Unrelated.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Mustang yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes or attempting to. Attempting to diagnose by following the service manual but I can't seem to access FTP PID to see voltage using my OBD II reader. I'm looking to see if the dealer's diagnosis is any good as I thought it would throw another DTC if it was the FTP?

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

My other thoughts are a stuck (partially closed or completely) canister vent valve but I don't seem to have an issue in filling the tank (which I assume would be present if that's the case).

Hello, my name is ***** ***** I'm here to help get your problem solved.

Ask Your Own Ford Question

This code can be caused by many things. To properly diagnose problem you would want to use a vacuum pump to change pressure of tank while monitoring fuel pressure sensor data. If fuel pressure sensor data does not change while changing vacuum this proves fuel pressure sensor is the problem. Here is a list of possible problems from manual. My goal is to provide 5 star service so please let me know if you have any questions, thanks.

-

Possible Causes:

  • EVAP purge valve stuck open
  • Blockages or kinks in the EVAP canister tube or EVAP canister purge outlet tube between the fuel tank, the EVAP purge valve and the EVAP canister
  • Capless fuel tank filler pipe damaged, preventing vacuum relief
  • Contaminated fuel vapor elbow on the EVAP canister
  • Restricted EVAP canister
  • EVAP canister vent valve stuck partially or fully closed
  • Plugged EVAP canister vent valve filter
  • VREF circuit open
  • Damaged FTP sensor

Do you have the the PID for the FTP sensor?

Your scantool may not be capable of viewing informtion, what model scantool do you have? You could also use a multimeter and monitor voltage by accessing wires.

It's a Veepeak Bluetooth OBDII Scanner. It's able to read plenty of other PIDs, can't seem to get FTP though. Where's the best spot for a multi meter?

It should be PID 50 or 84 I believe. Accessing wires anywhere works. Directly at PCM would probably be easiest location.

Ask Your Own Ford Question

The violet/green wire at pin 46 of PCM is for ftp signal.

Ok, I'm at work now but will give that a try when I get home. Will try to respond back later or tomorrow.

Sounds good, I'll talk to you then. Thanks.

Hi Dan, just an update. Sorry for the delay, I didn't get a chance to measure voltages (wasn't successful either in accessing the PIDs your mentioned through Torque Pro) yet. I'll try over the weekend and get back to you on Monday.

Sounds good, thanks.
