is the p0012 the only code that is currently present?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Ford Mechanic: Richard Greer, ASE Certified Technician replied 1 month ago

when you replaced the timing chain did all the marks line up correctly? the p0012 is indicating a Camshaft Position “A” - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 1). the cam timing being too far retarded would cause loss of power and misfires.

What were the timing marks on the cam phasers you installed?

They vary year to year and manufacturer to manufacturer.

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 1 month ago
An R an Land a dot
Ford Mechanic: A. Penland, Ford Senior Master Technician, ASE replied 1 month ago

The R should have been for the passenger side and the L would be for the drivers side. The dot would be on the crankshaft gear.

Is there any sludge build up in the engine?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 1 month ago
No sludge build up. Driver side left passengers right
Ford Mechanic: A. Penland, Ford Senior Master Technician, ASE replied 1 month ago

Either the timing has jumped on the passenger side, the cam phaser is bad, the VCT is bad, or the VCT housing that mounts to the cylinder head where the VCT solenoid mounts into is bad or clogged.
