Did you replace solenoids and bodies also? Checking pressure with mechanical gauge or dash gauge?

Truck ran fine cam phaser on bank one failed replaced all components thought I messed up timing opened front end and verified timing twice! When starting it cranks as though slightly out of time and will not idle

180 out on one of the cams? I would need to see a picture. Sometimes these phasers both have a R or a L

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Ford Mechanic: Kenny Z., Ford Senior Master Tech replied 2 months ago

If they both have L then L should be on bottom on right bank. If they both have R then R should be on bottom on left bank

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
They both have an L and R when I initially set timing used L on left and R on right

Is the L a capitol or a l ?

I’m 61 years old have done my own mechanic work on gasoline engines since I was 11 years old the newer technology throws me on this one
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
Both have an L with an arrow at the top
Ford Mechanic: Kenny Z., Ford Senior Master Tech replied 2 months ago

So then you put the right one on with the L down correct?

Ford Mechanic: Kenny Z., Ford Senior Master Tech replied 2 months ago

They don't look like this? Are these ford phasers or aftermarket?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Ford Mechanic: Kenny Z., Ford Senior Master Tech replied 2 months ago

If you have it set like this picture then there is another issue. Either sticking VCT solenoid, plugged collapsed screens, oil pressure issue to that cylinder head...Usually these phasers fail from oil pressure issues. I don't know if you had a mechanical gauge on it or not.

The original phaser ( which I didn’t install) was an aftermarket which was not properly torqued which allowed it to shear the pin on bank one. It ran perfectly fine up to that point.

OK, I will opt out and open the question up to other experts.
