My 05 f150 5.4L engine is shaking violently when started.

Customer Question
My 05 f150 5.4L...

My 05 f150 5.4L engine is shaking violently when started. Check engine light is on and showed a bank 2 sensor 2 code. I replaced that sensor but nothing has changed. It is now to the point where I can’t even accelerate in reverse to get out of my driveway. When I try to start it and rev it in park it is loud and shakes. It also smells like raw fuel. The truck does have 273,000 miles on it with the original engine. It seems like either the engine is not getting enough fuel or the cat is clogged. Please help.

Mechanic's Assistant: Does the light stay on, or does it blink?

It eventually blinks

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your F150 yourself? What have you tried so far?

I have only replaced the O2 sensor

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

I replaced another o2 sensor about 3 weeks ago.

when was the last time you checked for fault codes?

Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 24 days ago

ok, well if the check engine light is on and it blinks, there have to be more codes. can you hear a rattling in the front of the engine near the valve covers?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 24 days ago
There is definetly a rattling. There is also a small leak in my muffler that I noticed when I had someone rev it.
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 24 days ago

the rattling is the timing chains, unfortunately. these 5.4 3v engines are a nightmare.

sounds a bit like a diesel?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 24 days ago
I have had the notorious diesel tick since about 30k. Is this what you are referring to? Why would that give off a O2 sensor code?
Customer reply replied 24 days ago
This is nothing like that tick. This is a violent shaking of the engine. Could a converter be bad?
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 24 days ago

you can do a backpressure test to find out or remove the front o2 sensors

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 24 days ago
Would a bad converter make the truck not be able to even drive?
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 24 days ago

if it was 100 percent clogged yes but that is rare

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 24 days ago

plus you have more than one cat on there.

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 24 days ago

you may even want to do a compression test

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 24 days ago
I know, plus one of the cats were replaced about 50k ago. Could it be something with the fuel system? Fuel pump, fuel injectors etc. I just don’t understand how it could be driving fine with the check engine light on for three days and then not be able to even drive all of a sudden.
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 24 days ago

it could be a plethora of things. do a compression test. do a fuel pressure test. do a back pressure test.

those 3 tests will tell you a lot

I started it up again today and found that there is fuel spraying out of a crack in the exhaust pipe after the cat.
Ford Mechanic: David Craig, Auto Mechanic replied 23 days ago

fuel coming out of the exhaust pipe?
