2000 Ford F350 7.3 powerstroke, cranks will not start. Have checked the uvch, replaced idm, replaced pcm, replaced fuel filter and fuel bowl heater, not getting oil to the injectors

Mechanic's Assistant: Is the fuel filter an external one, or is it inside the tank?

It is the one ontop of the motor, there is not one in the fuel tank

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your F350 yourself? What have you tried so far?

Have checked the uvch, replaced idm, replaced pcm, replaced fuel filter and fuel bowl heater, not getting oil to the injectors, and replaced cps

greetings,

do you have diagnostic tools to check live data? how many miles? has the high pressure oil pump been replaced?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I have a snap on scanner, 300k, and I have plenty of high pressure oil
Ford Mechanic: Ironmike, Ford Technician replied 3 months ago

what does the ICP and IPR show?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
while cranking icp volts 2.93 icp psi 2261.4 ipr 41%
Ford Mechanic: Ironmike, Ford Technician replied 3 months ago

ICP should not be that high cranking. and the IPR seems high too.

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
ipr is brand new from ford and even if i disconnect icp still wont start
Ford Mechanic: Ironmike, Ford Technician replied 3 months ago

you might have a bad IPR. If it is stuck you might be able to rap/tap it to see if it starts to work. Just be nice in case you return it. They can be bad new. did you recheck for trouble codes?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
no codes, put the old one in my other 7.3 and it is good. the only weird thing I have found is that when I turn the key off and back on and try to use the scanner I have to pull fuse 30 in the cab, it is never blown but does have to be pulled and put back in
Ford Mechanic: Ironmike, Ford Technician replied 3 months ago

what is fuse 30 for? I have to check

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
radio noise capacitor, pcm power diode, fuel filter, waste gate. It doesnt blow but i have to pull it and put it back in for communication to the scanner again
Ford Mechanic: Ironmike, Ford Technician replied 3 months ago

Fuel heater, disconnect the fuel heater and see what happens

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
nothing did that yesterday, actually replaced fuel bowl and fuel bowl heating element
Ford Mechanic: Ironmike, Ford Technician replied 3 months ago

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
we even replaced the interior fuse box from another truck we have and still the same status. he is getting his volt meter to check the volts on that fuse
Ford Mechanic: Ironmike, Ford Technician replied 3 months ago

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
rpm is 172 while cranking
Ford Mechanic: Ironmike, Ford Technician replied 3 months ago

let me check some schematics and pick some brains. I have found many issues like this with a thorough inspection of the harness and connectors suspected. Not able to pull up my wire schematics right now.

Ford Mechanic: Ironmike, Ford Technician replied 3 months ago

I think we need to make sure the IDM has the right power and ground. Lets also check related fuses for power PCM and ignition switch fuses under the hood. lets make sure there are no voltage drops and open circuits.

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
ok well we checked that fuse # 30 on the interior fuse box reads 11.3 volts
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
have checked all fuses in the under hood fuse box for ign or pcm and all read 12 volts
Ford Mechanic: Ironmike, Ford Technician replied 3 months ago

did you replace the harness under the hood with a new harness?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Ford Mechanic: Ironmike, Ford Technician replied 3 months ago

did you try to unplug the wastegate solenoid? did we verify battery voltage at the IDM?

Ask Your Own Ford Question

which pin to verify volts at idm
Ford Mechanic: Ironmike, Ford Technician replied 3 months ago

check pin 14 DG/LG wire, need to check when cranking. otherwise we just get available voltage.

Will it start briefly while cranking on a short shot of ether followed by a spray bottle full of diesel fuel sprayed into the air intake after the filter?

Have you checked fuel pressure?

At the ICP unplugged, what is the key on voltage to the brown/white wire?

At the ICP is the gray/red ohm tested to ground showing no resistance?

ICP plugged up, cranking the engine, what is the voltage on the dark blue/light green wire?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
brand new fuel pump, icp brown/white is 0 with key on
will not start on a shot of ether, needs consistant spray
Ford Mechanic: Chris (aka- Moose), Technician replied 3 months ago

Brand new fuel pump does not confirm there is fuel pressure. We need to check that to make sure. New things fail all the time.

Unplug the accelerator pedal, MAP, EBP, CMP, ICP. What is the key on voltage now at the BR/WH wire?

4.42 volts at pcm
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
we checked the brown and white but position 90 is a tan wire
Ford Mechanic: Chris (aka- Moose), Technician replied 3 months ago

What color is pin 89 and 91?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
91 is brown and white, 89 is gray and white
Ford Mechanic: Chris (aka- Moose), Technician replied 3 months ago

89 is the correct color, 91 should be gray/red. It is a wiring mess there, you may ust be getting the pins confused a little or the BR/WH could be faded some and looks TN. Anyways, at the 4.42 voltage wire, ohm test it to the BR/WH at one of the sensors unplugged, do you get an open circuit?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
ohm meter goes blank when testing the brown and white at the icp
Ford Mechanic: Chris (aka- Moose), Technician replied 3 months ago

Since you have the correct voltage out of the PCM but not at the sensors needing this voltage. That means there is a wire break. Back probe the PCM pin and attach a temporary wire there. Do the same at the ICP and attach the wire there. You may need to push a piece of paperclip in to get a good connection when back probing. Key on, do all those sensors now have voltage? If so connect them, will it start?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
ok problem, they were checking the idm not pcm, there is nothing in the 90 spot, 89 is blue and orange and 91 gray and red
Ford Mechanic: Chris (aka- Moose), Technician replied 3 months ago

Nothing at PCM pin 90 means the PCM is bad or the PCM is not getting all the powers and grounds it needs. Here is non Ford diagram but easier to work from. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ev8yhe2avmn291k/pin90.pdf?dl=0 Check all PCM powers and grounds if they are good and 90 still has no power then replace the PCM. I will be offline until about 9 central tonight.

You now will see a rating scale 1=bad to-5=excellent because I have posted a full or partial answer instead of an info request. When you rate I get a portion of the deposit you made, no rating means you still paid, but I earn nothing. My goal is understanding your question, and addressing it in full detail. In return, receiving a 5-star rating. Rating does not close the post or stop the conversation. Please keep in contact and reply as much as needed. Thanks, Chris

we ran that wire from the pcm to the icp still will not start
Ford Mechanic: Chris (aka- Moose), Technician replied 3 months ago

We need to back up, "ok problem, they were checking the idm not pcm, there is nothing in the 90 spot, 89 is blue and orange and 91 gray and red"

"we ran that wire from the pcm to the icp still will not start"

There is nothing in pin 90 meaning no wire there or no voltage there?

If there is no wire there, then how did you connect a wire there?

If there is a wire there and no voltage there, then you need to do the steps I posted in my last response to test the PCM powers and grounds.

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
we did that this morning and there was 4.43 volts ran the wire from 90 to icp br/wh still will not start
Ford Mechanic: Chris (aka- Moose), Technician replied 3 months ago

Once you ran a new wire to address the broken wire, did all the sensors while plugged up now have 4.43 volts with the key on?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
when changing out an injector the cylinders are not filling up with oil like it would normally
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
i have 4.43 volts on the sensors
Ford Mechanic: Chris (aka- Moose), Technician replied 3 months ago

Now that you have voltage to the ICP which you did not prior. Tell me what the scan tool shows for ICP pressure while cranking?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
2300
Ford Mechanic: Chris (aka- Moose), Technician replied 3 months ago

That is not possible. Something is wrong with this reading it should be more in the 500-700 psi range at cranking speed. Is the high pressure oil reservoir full of oil?
