Customer Question
My 2000 ford windstar...

My 2000 ford windstar with 13,000 miles runs perfectly but has begun burning oil. No leaks, a little blue smoke at ignition but not while driving. Mechanics don't know what to do. Went through 4 quarts of oil in about a month following oil change and replaced the lost oil. Just had the oil changed again. I was told that even the new oil I put in was black. Please help.

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you ever replaced the gaskets? Maybe the hoses?

The hoses, yes...but not the gaskets.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Windstar yourself? What have you tried so far?

No I have been going to a neighborhood certified mechanic.

HI,

Ok, a dry and wet cylinder compression test needs to be done. The dry test is a regular compression test - remove spark plugs and check engine compression in each cylinder with compression tester and write down the numbers. On cylinders with low compression do a wet compression test- add a tablespoon of oil to the cylinder and retest compression

If compression comes up to other cylinders, the problem is a stuck or failed piston ring

If compression stays low, then valves seals have dried out over the years and need to be replaced
