Check engine light, code...

Check engine light, code comes up as P0741. multiple different opinions as to what needs to be fixed from the tcc selonoid to a complete trans rebuild/replacement. it has some slippage between 5 & 6

Mechanic's Assistant: Does the light stay on, or does it blink?

Stays on, may stay on for days but then goes out. have had codes cleared and the 0741 was the first to come back on. its a 2014 escape awd 1.6eco. we have recently had the service trans now msg come on but it goes off when car is retsrated

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Escape yourself? What have you tried so far?

Probably not unless it is just a tcc solenoid that may be accessible without dropping or pulling the trans?

not to our knowledge, we bought it about 2 1/2 years ago with 78,000 and it now has 120,000

ok i see, then take it in and have dealer run vin # make sure that tsb bulletin been performed and have it scanned using a dealer or equivalent scanner to retrieve fault codes ,if the tcc solenoid is faulty it will set a fault code in tcm module memory and they will have to drop fluid and inspect for any small metal shavings ,will be the next step ,at that mileage hopeful;y that tcc solenoid needs replaced and is the most common on them my experience and i have changed a lot and not full rebuild sis needed here

had it into the dealer, they did use the scanner while test driving - their notes are - "found code 0731 gear 1 incorrect ratio, p0741 tcc stuck off, p1744 tcc solenoid circuit, test drove monitoring pids, everything is being electronically commanded as it should, but tcc is locking up and not disengaging when it should be. also forward clutch not engaging and releasing 1st gear when it should be."

well you did not mention all that earlier ,but if that is been done it will need rebuild ,

did they drop fluid and check for small metal shavings or no ,just scanner and drive test ?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
just test drove and scanned. if fluid does not have metal shavings would it still need a rebuild? approximately how much is a typical rebuild?

if there is no metal shavings then no , we will have a tcc solenoid , wiring ,connector to it ,

i would drop fluid and inspect , now days rebuild for these units with 12 month or 12k miles warranty

around $1800, depending on mArket and where u live

sorry, one last question. when looking at the drained fluid, will it be obvious if there is metal in it (would you be able to "feel" it if rubbed between your fingers) or how do you tell

BUY A PAPER FILTER SCREEN AND RUN FLUID THRU IT , IT WILL HAVE LIKE A SMALL MESH SCREEN IN THE BOTTOM OF FILTER , BODY SHOP PAINTER USE THEM TO RUN PAINT THRU :)
