I have a 2003 Ford Taurus SES 24V DOHC with 171K miles. Runs like a champ. at idle it gets a miss like it's going to stall

Mechanic's Assistant: How many miles are on the car? What size is the engine?

3.0L with 171 thousand miles

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Taurus yourself? What have you tried so far?

Working with a mechanic. I have replaced the IAC and PCV Hose and Valve myself. when that didn't work I took to a maechanic for a tune up. $600 later I still have the same problem. The work he did was spark plugs (motorcraft) plug wires, coil pack, air intake boot, Vavle cover gaskets, fuel filter and lower manifold gaskets

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Can't think of anything

Ask Your Own Ford Question

Is the check engine light on?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
No check engine light. My mechanic said his scanner shows the front 3 cylinders run lean and it trying to compensate with it running richer

Ok

Could be a bad front O2 sensor causing that since you don't have any vacuum leaks. I would also consider a possible catalytic converter issue. If you remove the front sensor from the exhaust and it runs better that can indicate a blockage.

The other thing could be a faulty mass air flow sensor. If you unplug the sensor and start the car and it runs better, that points to the maf. This can fail and never set off the check engine light. Same with the front O2 sensor on bank one.

Just a couple thoughts for you that may not have been explored yet.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
