RELATED VEHICLES: 2001-2002 Escape. Related vehicles have similar information.

SUMMARY: This code checks the electrical function of the EGRVR solenoid. The code sets when the EGRVR circuit voltage is either too low or too high when compared to the expected voltage range. The EGR system must be enabled for the test to be completed. The EGR vacuum regulator solenoid (EGRVR) is a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) solenoid, and is never completely closed. A small amount of vacuum will pass even at 0% duty cycle.

PROBABLE CAUSES:

  • EGR Vacuum Regulator (EGRVR) Solenoid wiring or connectors.
  • EGR Vacuum Regulator (EGRVR) Solenoid
  • PCM

DIAGNOSIS:
1. Perform a visual inspection of the EGR Vacuum Regulator (EGRVR) Solenoid hoses, wiring and connectors.

2. Disconnect the EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid electrical connector. Key On Engine Off, verify B+ voltage at terminal 1, circuit 100 WH/RD wire.
If the voltage is not correct repair the circuit.
If the voltage is correct continue to the next step.

3. Verify the EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid resistance between terminals 1 & 2 is 26-40 ohms.
If the resistance is not correct replace the solenoid.
If the resistance is correct continue to next step.

4. Disconnect the PCM connector C175 verify the resistance from pin 47, circuit 585, VT wire, to terminal 2 of the EGRVR connector is less than 5.0 ohms.
If the resistance is more than 5.0 ohms repair the circuit.
If the resistance is correct and the PCM power and ground are ok, replace the PCM.
