Hi I have an...

Hi I have an 86 F150 302 efi. I bought the pickup for very cheap on a bit of a gamble and it wouldn’t run well. It would start hard and idle rough but would rev with a little hesitation then run smooth at higher rpm. I checked wet and dry compression. All was good so I changed oil because there was a lot of gas in old oil. Changed the canister fuel filter in tank valve housing and changed inline filter after pump. The canister style was completely plugged and started and ran great for a day. The next day it wouldn’t start at all. Pulled it to the shop. Tested fuel pressure at the rail and it was 48psi checked fuel pump relay and eec relay both relays are good.

Mechanic's Assistant: Is the fuel filter an external one, or is it inside the tank?

It only has the sock style filters on the tank pickups. I have taken out tanks just to clean and ended up cleaning those filters with ether.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your F150 yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes I am. I so far have just done general maintenance things. Plugs,wires, fuel filters, and some diognostics. Have good spark, checked base timing.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

The pickup does not have a smog pump or cat any longer
