Hello! Have a...

Hello! Have a 2011 F-150 XLT EcoBoost with a parasitic draw of ~1.7 amps that is draining my battery after about 2 night. Measured voltage drop across the 10 amp inside fuse #11 to be 3.5 mv, which correlated to 472 ma. It is listed as the Instrument Cluster fuse. Any ideas??

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked all the fuses? Do you have a wiring diagram?

I have checked all the fuses, and no, I do not have a wiring diagram. The local Ford dealership here is Abilene, TX (125 employees) has attempted twice to fix it. First replace the radio / CD player, then the alternator. Still same battery drain.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your F150 yourself? What have you tried so far?

Have not tried anything myself to fix, just doing the diagnosis. I do have an electonics background. Above answer describes what has been done. Also, previous to that, the dealership had to replace the Sync unit (name?) because they blew it trying to figure out why it would not update with a USB drive.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Not really, I guess.

Instrument cluster may need reset. pull out cluster fuses and leave out, cycle igniton and reinstall fuses. Retest and that should resolve the issue.

The parasitic drain consistently fluctuates between 1.7 ma and .4 ma. every few seconds. I did flip the door locks shut, "locked" the doors with remote, and let sit for over 2 hrs before doing individual voltage drop measurements across all interior fuses and those under the hood that could be measured.

Do you have an aftermarket alarm system fitted?

No. Bought used a few months ago, and everything is stock. Just added a backup camera which is only powered by a t-connector tapped into the backup light cable (rear bumper), and only activates in reverse.

Tried your suggestion - pulled #11 10 amp Instrument Cluster fuse. Cycled engine (no lights on instruments, of course), turned off engine. Then "relocked" the doors, waited am hour, put fuse back in, and put DVM across fuse. Got same 3.5 mv, but upon leaving the test leads in place, noticed that the measurement cycled between 3.5mv for about 12 seconds to 1.6mv for about 5 seconds. Thus "timing cycling pattern" seems to be consistent across fuses, and when the measuring the parasitic amperage drain at the battery. Any good explanation on this cycling?
