What causes the check engine light to come on? I had the engine oil changed. I have had it turned off and a week later its back on.

It stays on as long as the ignation iis on.

The check engine light being on means that the engine computer has detected a fault and set a trouble code. There are dozens of possibilities. If you visit an autozone, or advance auto parts they will retrieve these codes and give you a printout of them for free. If you can give me the codes I can give you a good idea of what the problem may be. Is that something you can do and get back to me?
