Customer Question
i have the p1518 code...
i have the p1518 code set on my 03 F150 with 4.2 v6. it has 160,000 miles on it and has been running perfect except it recently started spark knocking on a trip to Michigan. i started it last nite to let it warm up. when i came back out to leave the check engine light had come on. Checked code this morning and had set the P1518 code. My question is would the knock sensor have anything to do with it setting this code?

The code P1518 indicates that the secondary butterflies in the intake manifold are stuck open and will not close.
The butterflies are normally closed at idle and under approximately 3300 RPM. When RPM exceeds the approximate 3300 RPM area, the butterflies should open for improved engine torque. One common cause for this problem is the Intake Manifold Runner Control Actuator Clip come loose and the linkage comes off. Are you able to do some testing to check this?

where are they located and would have anything to do with the spark knocking?
Ford Mechanic: Ron, ASE Certified Technician replied 6 months ago

The Intake Manifold Runner Control actuator is located under the upper plenum at the rear of the intake manifold. I have enclosed the testing step for the Intake Manifold Runner Control Actuator in the link below as well. Start first with making sure the linkage is connected.
