Good afternoon,

What all was replaced when you did the timing chain?

What brand of parts were used?

Ford Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 5 months ago

VCT solenoids?

Are you getting any timing related codes? Or any codes at all for that matter?

How weird. Compression is good across all cylinders?

Fuel pressure sitting around 60psi?

Ask Your Own Ford Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
good compression, fuel pressure is at about 45 at idle
Ford Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 5 months ago

Fuel pressure is a little low, but then again it could just be cold fuel.

And you're not seeing any misfires on the scan tool even though it feels like it's running rough?

The problem with these engines is that Ford has begun replacing them rather than fixing the timing issues. What doesn't make sense to me is why recommend replacing and engine that has good compression just because of a failed chain?

Do you have a ton of miles on this one?

But I’m with you if compression and not using oil why replace
Ford Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 5 months ago

Sorry I had to run out of the shop a little early yesterday.

If you have good compression, good spark, no valvetrain leakage, no misfire data, no vacuum leaks, and good fuel pressure then the only thing left would be a PCM issue. Maybe the injector driver circuit is faulty or something?

Hi Jared,
Started running great today for about 15min then bad again, but notice that fuel pressure was close to 60 when running good and down to 25 30 now. When running bad. Do you think it is the fpdm or pump itself? Or better off to just do both.
Ford Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 5 months ago

I'd probably go with the pump first. We rarely change the modules on these trucks.

Key on engine off pressure about 60 but drops to 40 almost instantly. Doesn’t seem to hold, key on engine running, drops to 20 then goes up to 30.
I read different stuff on the pressures, what is proper running pressure? Still runs bad and only code is a lean code every now and then
Ford Mechanic: Jared D, ASE Certified Technician replied 5 months ago

It should hold at 40-45 while running. That would make sense to see a lean code if it's running down to 20.
