1996 E350--rear door locks will not release--must open rewar doors from inside

Mechanic's Assistant: Is it your first time dealing with this issue?

Just bought van so I've been dealing with problem since October.

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model of your '96 Ford?

E350: extended van. Maroon. Lock actuater button works on driver, passenger and side doors but not on rear doors.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes and hammer. Seems something is loose on door jam and doors--little fingers don't line up with magnetic (?) actuators. Bad fuse?

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

I'm cheap.

REAR DOORS-THE ONE WITH THE LICENSE PLATE ON IT. WILL NOT OPEN WITH KEY OR BUTTON.
Ford Mechanic: Pete, Auto Service Technician replied 8 months ago

I apologize for asking that. After re reading your question I do see it is the rear doors as you had stated side doors are o.k.

When you press unlock do you hear or see the lock trying to move at all in the door?

Let me know,thanks Pete

No. It won't even unlock when I pull the "button" up. In fact, the "button" won't move. It's stuck.
Ford Mechanic: Pete, Auto Service Technician replied 8 months ago

O.k., this indicates the fault is with the door latch itself. This is the latch assembly the button is connected to and the mechanical parts in the latch can bind or fail to cause the issue here.It fails to release the button as well as to allow opening from the outside.I have seen the latch fail in the past before causing this fault here with it needing replaced. This was the most common cause of this fault you are seeing.

If more help is needed, use the reply tab to continue our conversation. If no further assistance is needed, kindly rate my service, your 5-star rating is appreciated ( should be a link to click on here or above). You can rate at any time and we can continue to work on your question as this will not close out your question.I work on delivering the best answer and help here but in some cases, it can be difficult to do without seeing the vehicle.

Thanks Pete
