I have a 2001 F150, tilt column, 4.6 V8, 171k miles. Problem is that sometimes the engine will turn over but not start. Noticed that fuel pump does not always turn on when turning key. Turning key back and forth a few times and the engine starts. Problem is intermittent but is getting worse. Is this something I can fix? Thanks.

Hi, My name is Jay

The fuel pump may be going bad or the fuel pump relay in engine compartment fuse box may not be making contact intermittently. You can try replacing the relay first to see if it fixes the problem? Otherwise the fuel pump in the tank will need to be replaced. Have you noticed any other components do not turn on intermittently and have to cycle the key?
