Customer Question
Just checked voltage output...

Just checked voltage output on new alternator 12.6 v w low battteries on 96 F Superduty 7.3. Cleaned Battery terminals & checked alt connections no change??

Mechanic's Assistant: How old is the battery? And have you tested it with a voltmeter?

Batteries are at least a few years old & yes voltage output @ Alt terminal 12.6 w engine running high idle w meter..

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model of your '12 Ford?

96 F 450 dump..

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?

Didn't have a functioning volt meter prior to alt replacement. The volt meter on the dash was my guide. Figured old Alt which was older than the batteries . was at fault. Yes i"m attempting to isolate the issue myself..

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Vehicle was recently @ a Ford dealership for what turned out to be a bad fuel issue, wouldn't fire.. The dealership mentioned they had to charge batteries but i figured this was due to 15-18 times of cycling through glow plugs & then cranking.. Prior to the dealership visit there were no issues w the charging system..
