Customer Question
Hello I have a...

Hello I have a 1987 f150 and when I put the transmission in drive I accelerate and nothing happens the engine just revs up when it gets to 3k tomorrow it starts to move. Is my transmission going out??

Mechanic's Assistant: How old is the transmission? Have you checked the fuel filters?

I'm not sure I just bought the truck, I have not checked the filters.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your F150 yourself? What have you tried so far?

I would prefer to fix it myself I'm mechanically inclined but I have never worked with an auto trans. I haven't tried anything so far. As it is dark out

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

No that would be all

hi there

im cam, a licenced diagnostic tech

im not sure why you requested a new tech?

If your fluid is full on the dipstick, than your tranmission pump is at failure and will require replacment.

a full dissassembly and rebuild is recommended as any micros slivers of pump or foreign material will damage the transmission

used your service this weekend with "Trecers" help. thank you ,thank you, thank you. replaced an A/C fan motor. Local Auto Zone had part. $15.00 "tracer" fee and $40.00 for parts, I saved several hundreds of dollers at a shop. i will recommend you and use you in the future.

9 dollars, 2 hours of my time, and I drove away. Your diagnosis was right on the mark. Thank you so much.
