Customer Question
Hi. Occasionally, for no...

Hi. Occasionally, for no apparent reason, my 2010 3 litre Ford ranger suddenly loses power. Most disconcerting especially going up a steep hill. The good thing is that when I turn the vehicle off and restart everything, most times, goes back to normal. Thanks. Gary

Mechanic's Assistant: Is the power loss consistent, or does it fluctuate?

Hi. It doesnt happen every day. And there does not appear to be any consistency in weather, fuel stops etc

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Ranger yourself? What have you tried so far?

No. I can honestly say I'm mechanically bankrupt. I've been using the local Ford mechanic who has replaced the egr chip and that's about all.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Can't think of anything off the top of my head. Other than this problem I've been happy with the vehicle.

Hello my name is ***** ***** welcome to just answers! I will be assisting you with all of your vehicle questions today. Give me one moment while I review your question and come back with a answer. Please be aware I do not know your skill level or abilities so I will be asking a lot of questions and in a lot of cases we will respond to each other quite a lot before we find a solution. As far as phone calls are concerned that is the system prompting you, not me, and they do cost more money, I prefer text but in some cases a phone call is required. If I don’t answer right away or quickly in conversation I am helping another customer or have stepped out for a moment and will respond as soon as I can. Ok lets get started!

Do you have a check engine or other light coming on ?

Customer reply replied 7 months ago
I did have a yellow engine light coming on but it did not seem to affect power.
Ford Mechanic: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 7 months ago

OK so we will need to get the vehicle scanned to see what that code or codes are, this will help us know where to go next

Shawn. I don't know what you mean by scanning for codes and I'm nowhere near a mechanic. Can you give me any indication what the problem might be so I can talk to a mechanic.
Ford Mechanic: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 7 months ago

If you go to the local auto parts store they can check the check engine light and tell you the codes with a scanner, we will need this information to move forward with the help
