1985 ford bronco, 351w with atomatic c6 transmission. Changed out transmission fluid including draining the converter. When i shift into each gear it seems fine. When I shift directly into low gear, the truck will not move. Seems like parking brake is on but it is not. After recent test drive, now hearing a slight whine or whistle from the tranny. I'm at a loss

Ask Your Own Ford Question

Hello, so all you did was a service, what kind of fluid did you use? What did the fluid look like in the trans and in the pan? No metal or debris present? It has reverse and forward gear and upshifts 1-2, 2-3 ok but wont move only in manual 1st and second gear ranges? Trans filter sealed properly?

Fluid was still good when I changed it, ran just fine. Just had a leaky pan. It has reverse and shifts fine except when it's engaged into first gear manually, I'll use power braking as an example of what it does

Ok if im not mistaken, this filter bolts to the main control valve body. I cant find any listings on this if the bolts are a different length or not. But if the wrong bot length is put and forced into an area it could cause a valve body or transmission issue. Or if the trans filter isnt sealing properly it can aerate and starve for fluid and make noises. But I would probably lean more towards an internal problem if dropping the pan doesnt show any issues with the filter replacement. These are pretty strong transmisison, but when they do fail, its will have problems. Typical issues are a worn out forward clutch or failed seals, a sticking govenor or loss of hydraulic circuits. I would take a good look at the valve body first for any issues with the transmission linkage binding or a sticking valve in the valve body first.
